I would definitely use Thrifty again! Agent upgraded me to larger vehicle, which was crucial for my trip. When finally going up to receive reservation, may be turned away. We had a long wait to pick up a car we had already reserved. Not enough people working the counters! The gal we had, though, was very patient and kind. But, even when we had already purchased third-party car insurance from Kayak, we were strongly encouraged to buy even more from Thrifty--an unexpected cost.
That was irritating. Having finally gotten the paperwork done, we were sent to the car garage where it was very unclear as to what we were supposed to do! Aisles of categorized cars and so few people to ask for assistance.
We eventually found out we were just supposed to pick one out in our category! The Chevy Spark we picked out, though, was a great small car for the 2 of us--easy to drive, great gas mileage, could fit in tight parking spots, and great turning radius.
However, the AC blower was wonky and did not work correctly all the time and we really needed it while driving in the desert! We really wanted properly working AC. Returning the car at J. Wayne Airport in Newport Beach was somewhat confusing, as well. We found out there were not enough people to do that job properly either--like properly checking the car for any damages. They took our paperwork and went off with it, with us not knowing if there would be any additional charges until they emailed us.
Very frustrating, again. I guess the car rental companies just can't find people willing to work for them. They seem very short-handed. Line to pickup was out the door with limited staff working. Overall, the experience was good except for the initial pickup which took over one hour. They literally maxed out my car for a car I returned. My car was very clean and low miles 4, I chose a full size and grabbed a Nissan Altma, which is really a very nice car.
I just recently switched to Thrifty, and really like the fact that they don't hard sell you to buy their insurance of the full tank of gas option.
The rental counter in San Diego was very busy, but the agents were very efficient and worked quickly to minimize my wait time. Simply not fare with the customers, not truthful about the hidden charges. The car was dirty and full of sand. Avis reviews. Cleanliness 7. I selected the "mystery car"when reserving, however Avis tried to deliver a pickup truck. Since I was on holiday, with suitcases, there was no way I could accept a pickup which would leave my luggage in full view of potential thieves.
I don't comprehend how Avis could consider a pickup truck to be a car. You very well may end up with a truck instead of a car Avis and all other rentals have become overly expensive.
The worst customer service. They misrepresented the airport. I searched for San Diego International Airport and secured a rental. When I arrived, I found that the car was only at a small airport some distance away and I was forced to pay the "walk-in" rate.
Hopefully I will receive some compensation. Pick up was very slow but drop off was extremely quick. Satisfied with the final price. Booked flight to San Diego, then rental car. Got to San Diego and rental car had been reserved for a location nowhere near the airport. You lost my reservation. Drop off so easy and our check in rep was stellar! I signed up for the "Mystery car" at a discount. The Mystery car turned out to be a 12 passenger van or a pick up truck.
Tires on car were bald. Caused a flat tire. Budget reviews. Drop off location was hard to find. I did not like it at all I couldn't even actually rent the car because the rental place was already closed. My rental was at 6pm on oct.
The lady who answered my phone told me that could not be accommodated since my rental was not ready so i had no choice but waiting until 6pm. When i went to the rental place a bit after 6pm to get my rental, the place was closed; i found out that the place closes at 6pm. What kind of rental place closes at 6pm and only allow a rental car to be picked up at 6pm.
Worst experience in my life. I almost missed my flight. The car was not clean and smelled like smoke. Budget was not helpful in being able to change the reservation to the airport location On pick up or drop off.
Clean car and good customer service at the airport. Car smelled bad of smoke and had 60, miles and rattled a lot. Glad we made it back in one piece. Hidden fees all over the bill when you leave. The employees seemed condescending, even a bit rude. Budget and Avis are run together The budget booth was empty, and was not sure how to pickup my rental.
Was thankful to be alerted that the Avis booth was able to support me in picking up my Budget rental vehicle. No big deal, but this communication would be helpful.
Sixt reviews. Finally, they put me in a Volkswagen Jetta, which I told them I did not want earlier in the bait and switch portion of the pick up. I reluctantly accepted the Jetta when it beecame clear that it was take that car or get NO car. It turned out to be a nice car after all and got great gas mileage, but was very low for my 95 year old mother to sit in.
Then, when I showed proof of my pre-purchased Auto Insurance policy they acted like I was a criminal. They car I took had numerous dents and scratches, and it took a lengthy trip back to the counter to find someone who would update the faulty pre-rental check out form to show the sideswipe of the vehicle.
I will not rent from SixT again More help at check out, and options beyond one car for the class when you do not have the reserved vehicle.
Spent 1. Only one employee working the desk at the San Diego airport Then the employee kept trying to upsell us rather than just execute the original premade rental as requested online.
They were not there when I went to pick up. I stood waiting for them for almost 30 minutes. Kept asking people if they knew where they were. Went upstairs and was told the attendant was between car washes and the kiosk.
Never saw them. Had called the number and it referred me back to the rental agency. Went to the rental agency and they referred me back to kayak. No one took responsibility. I want my money back! Terrible customer service. I had booked through kayak and I had chose the wrong dates. I called Kayak within minutes of the booking to try and cancel it. They told me to call Sixt. Their calling system would keep looping me between prompts and kept suggesting the website. But when I tried to cancel online, it would tell me that I needed to call in.
I will never use this company again. Different rules at counter than when I called customer service. When we arrived to pick up the car the booth was closed.
We had to uber all the way to our Airbnb and then back in the morning to pick up the car. Awful experience. Nothing the entire experience was terrible and I will not be renting from SixT again. Everything could have been better the entire time the customer service rep kept trying to upsell me after informing me the car I had booked for my family of six Yukon was not available.
The experience was terrible and seemed like a scam to get you to pay more. Very helpful. My walker did not fit in the trunk so they gave us a different car Nothing. Hertz reviews. Kayak booked a Mexican operated car rental company which is located outside of the SD airport for us, we cannot find the location, it was a nightmare for us.
We had to rent from a US operated Hertz company which is located in the airport. Please remove this car rental company from your list as it will make your customer nightmare. I will never book anything from Kayak again as I cannot have another nightmare experience. At the rental, I informed the rental agent that I may be returning the car early.
She told me that was not a problem. On the door was a sign referring to placement of the keys in a dropbox. I attempted to return the car early, but before the office opened at 8 a. There was no dropbox as advertised. After much calling multiple numbers within Hertz, I was informed by roadside assistance who knew that was what I needed to call to drop the car off at the airport.
I was also informed that they would charge me the "intercity fee". I was indeed charged the intercity fee. I am in a dispute with Hertz over that charge. Arrived at SAN at pm, by the time we picked up our luggage, and made it to the rental car shuttle the driver said the shuttle was full and will need to wait for the next shuttle.
So we waited. The next shuttle came 30 minutes later only to tell us Hertz was closed. Not a big deal, took Uber to hotel. Next morning found our reservation was moved for pick up at the Tijuana Airport.
I hung up and found another rental company. The whole process was professional and easy. I really enjoyed the car I received and it was an excellent price. The vehicle was clean and well cared for. The Hertz office is also quote nice for a rental car company, and the attendant was friendly and communicated well. A great experience.
At San Diego Airport we were told we could not pick up or return the rental car there because we reserved through 3rd party such as Kayak. They wanted us to uber to a location 20 minutes from airport..
Had to scrap the reservation and book direct with Hertz. Not booking through kayak again. Hertz rep had a very strong language barrier which her name is Mariana, she insulted me and canceled my reservation. Which I lost my job die to me having an important meeting in Vegas.. I booked a vehicle from am until the following night, and received confirmation for my reservation.
Little did I know that when I got to the airport and went to the desk, there was a piece of paper that listed the hours: am - pm. I tried calling the reservation line at least 10 times and no help. I tried seeking help from the airport workers and someone took a picture of my reservation on my phone to check, and never came back.
I was waiting for probably 30 minutes before giving up. Liked - lot's of storage space for cargo. Disliked - very dirty. Was not cleaned prior to pick-up. We had ants coming out of the dashboard and underneath the dashboard for two days. Sprayed ant killer after the first day but ants appeared for the second day. Windshield washer blades were in poor condition.
We drove in the rain the end of the first day and all day the second day. Made for tough driving especially in the early morning hours when it was dark. Small gas tank capacity which made for frequent fill-ups. Economy Rent a Car. Economy Rent a Car reviews. Cleanliness 6. Staff seemed very appreciative of our business, will recommend to others. Great value and great service!
I never got the car. The car rental place was closed by the time I tried getting the car. I had to rent else where for my trip. Staff was great.
Came at about in the evening and took a while to get the shuttle from the car rental center to the Economy car rental location. May need better staffing in the evenings and nights. Staff friendly. Efficient service. Straight to the point. Drop off was fast, got lyft ride back to house took 5 minutes to get there. Great rental price. Very nice and professional stuff. They should put a sign on their office. Super nice staff. Seamless pick up and drop off. I book the reservation 48 hours prior to arrival.
So my reservation was made to a closed location. Luckily, another rental car company was able to assist me with a vehicle, bit at a much higher rate. We couldn't find the car rental company so we went with a different one last minute.
I think they moved to a different location, so we call ed them to come pick us up or for further instructions but no one answered the phone number that was given to us on the reservation. Fox reviews. The car drove fine. However, the front tires were in need of replacement. No tread on front tires. The car had many scratches and high miles. Otherwise a good experience. Pickup and drop off with this company is mediocre at best. Poor signage, and lack of directions caused us to walk half the garage in San Diego looking for their location.
Car was fine, but finding their kiosk was difficult. No one advised there would be no one at early drop off time. Check in was fast and easy. Return was easy.. In addition, car wasn't clean and didn't smell very good.
We had an excellent experience with Fox. However, while we were in line there was a completely uncooperative, mean, ornery female customer that challenged everything the poor girl working with her had to say. That sweet employee of Fox did not lose her cool, not for a second and the witch that was trying to get everything for nothing left with a vehicle.
I commend her! She then took the next in line and continued on smiling. Our flight had change hours which we were forced to come earlier and leave later. Awful they cancelled my reservation after less than 3 hours and they tried to charge me for a new reservation much more than what I originally had reserved. I ended up going with a competitor.
I was charged fees I did not agree to. It was their error and they said that I initialed it so too bad. Another fee error was they said I was suppose to bring back the car the next day so there was a penalty for that as well. I had my rental reservation on my phone that had the correct date so they took that fee off. That proved to me that they can make mistakes so it was possible they goofed on the first problem.
Have to call them on Monday to see what their story is. After reserving and paying in-full in advance They should have kept our car available for us. Or, they should have provided a substitute vehicle. They should MORE than refund our money and pay for all of the outstanding price inconveniences. Thank you for asking Easy pickup and drop off and price was right. Ace reviews. Cleanliness 4. Everything was fine except extremely long line to pick up the car.
About a 1 hour wait! Counter representative Drew was extremely helpful. Pick up of the vehicle took almost 90 minutes! Turning in the vehicle took over 45 minutes and two shuttle rides to finally arrive at the airport!! Will never use Ace again!! We got there and there was no car available. There was a two to three hour waiting time. We all had the same time reservation. Outside waiting in the sun Customers getting sunburned. Easy access from airport, walking distance to most hotels.
Friendly staff member Letty was informative and helpful! There was only one employee, so we had to wait an hour to get my car. It took us 45 - 50 minutes in line. The San Diego airport office closes at midnight. No problem, I get that. Our delayed flight arrived after that. No contact had been made with us about contingency for out reservation Their after hours phone message goes to voice mail, can't speak with anybody.
We were lucky to get a car from Alamo. No more Payless for me. Offered me a smaller car for almost no discount. The car was in terrible shape, banged up, and stunk like cigarettes.
Car was disgusting, literally smelt like BO and fast food. I had to buy an air freshener. It was also so undoemtbake I took the head rest off so I could drive. Terrible all around. They pulled us in with a low price per day. You pay for what you think is the final price on Kayak.
When you go to pick up the car, they pile on additional fees to the tune of 3x what you originally paid when booking through Kayak. Avoid them at all costs. Not a good deal. We left feeling robbed and will never rent through Payless again. Worst experience ever. The car we rented from Payless in San Diego was the worst car I've rented since a trip to Central America almost 10 years ago.
It had mutliple scratches, about 75, miles, and a very loud engine. It also had the worst pick-up of any car I have ever driven.
I can't believe Payless found it "rentable. The reservation was explained at Priceline as no cancellation. Priceline withdrew the rental amount from my credit card on August 1. I received confirmation of my reservation from August So Priceline and Payless took my payment and never informed me I was on their no rent list until I showed up at the counter 28 days later. Not only did I not have a rental car from Payless, but I had to scramble and luckily got a last minute car from Avis.
I did not cancel my reservation with Priceline and indeed received confirmation of my rental from Priceline before showing up in San Diego at Payless to pickup the car. I have furnished my credit card company at Chase Bank with 12 pages of proof that Priceline needs to refund the money they are keeping unjustly, The Priceline trip number is Payless confirmation number is US3.
They did not honor my same day reservations, and was out of cars. They have not refunded my pre-payment. They say I have to submit my contract from the new rental company for the exact car and time frame, and they will refund the difference. My new reservation had to also be paid in full upfront. I am fighting to get back my full refund from Payless. Literally the first review I've ever written, it was that bad.
Just don't go. I know it's cheaper. Just don't do it. You'll wait hours in line to pick up. They'll probably successfully scam you into upcharges.
Your car seats will have cigarette burns all over. Your car will threaten to break down with the slightest touch of the accelerator. Your car will sound like it hates being a car. If the only other option is a thousand dollars more, go with that one.
Payless is a nightmare start to finish. Show more reviews. Very easy to pick up and drop off Just as the sign of the times added taxes and charges were a bit disappointing. We should have known when we went up and it was "over air freshnered" and all the windows were down. This made the rental almost impossible to enjoy. Pros: Yes. Pros: Great price and nice clean vehicle.
Pros: yes. Pros: I was able to pick up the car the night before and saved money. Pros: Great service, fast easy courteous. Pros: The staff were great. They showed us how to work some of the new features on the car. The car was in excellent condition; it was brand new! Pros: Alamo was great. But it was my second choice, after my first choice -- some no name rental agency called Mex, selected initially via Kayak, which routed me through Rentcars.
I landed at 6 pm, the time of my reservation, only to discover that the rental office was already closed. There was no one to help me, no number to call, no customer service from anyone in that chain, including Kayak. It was a friday evening at 6. I had to get a ride from the airport, and come back the next morning to rent from Alamo. Which was great. Cons: Alamo was great. Avoid Mex Rent a Car and Rentcars. No one picks up the phone at Mex and you can't leave a voicemail.
The number for Rentcars doesn't work, and the email responses are all in Portuguese. I'm not kidding. Why Kayak continues to use these vendors is a mystery to me. Makes me reconsider my choice in travel apps. I realize that the covid-related car shortage is affecting everyone. Finally found a car to drive from San Diego to Palm Springs, since my flight had been cancelled. My suitcase is still en route to Palm Springs--flight delayed.
Oh well Cancelled our reservation at last minute due to no available vehicles. Terrible experience. Extremely rude. Non refundable fee, so out the money, everyone with our travel group was appalled. Rebooked with Avis through Costco. Made a reservation online, then showed up at Enterprise and was told they did not have a car for me.
They said I could wait an hour or so and maybe a car would show up, but likely not, as there were already other people waiting and hoping a car would show up for them. I called to let them know I was on my way.
I get there and they said give us a couple of minutes. I find it ridiculous. I don't know how it could have been easier. The staff and process worked very efficiently. Thanks for that! The whole Enterprise experience was really great and much better than most other rental car agencies. The SD staff was really accomodating with a short notice on the rental due to flight issues and drop off at LAX location was so easy and incredibly accomodating.
Didn't allow me to rent a car because it was a local rental, I have a local address and I wanted to use my debit card vice credit card. I made the reservation online, but was never informed of such a rule They wanted to charge me 2 times what I agreed to on my reservation in order to rent a car from them. I will never use them again. I wasted 2 hours of my time driving around and talking with Enterprise associates that were ultimately not helpful at all.
Horrible experience. We had a long wait to get the car. Otherwise the experience was good. Drop off was smooth. I dropped the car off according to schedule about an hour before it was due. There was no employee at the drop-off site, and the instructions said to leave the keys in the car. So I did, and Dollar ripped me off by charging me over twice what I had expected to pay.
After contacting Dollar, they refuse to refund me. I'm never going to them again. The wait to speak to a representative to get my car was 1 hour. Pros: Car was fine. Smaller than model prepaid, but okay.
My flight was minutes. Pros: Friendly and helpful staff. Clean, comfortable, and good car. Pros: Efficient Pick Up. The car had 30, plus miles, with stains on the interior ceiling. There was minimal space in any of the rows and virtually no cargo space, despite being advertised as three large bags and seven people.
Cons: I took over 70 minutes waiting in line to pick up the car. Never again. Pros: A hertz employee ended up helping us because the line was so long.
Cons: Horrible experience. Will never rent from dollar again. The car was an upgraded convertible since a regular convertible was not available and was in good shape and everything worked well. The staff were nice - we waited maybe minutes in line and drop off was super fast and the shuttle was waiting to take us to the airport. I would definitely use Thrifty again! Agent upgraded me to larger vehicle, which was crucial for my trip. When finally going up to receive reservation, may be turned away.
