Chicago blackout 2011

Cause all my other webpages are working just fine…. I was one of those people who was afraid to buy a Smartphone now, what would I do without it?!?! I would much rather prefer living in the times before electricity, machinery, and everything that goes along with it.

Technology tears us away from humanity. Many will argue with me and say that it brings us closer. How many of us have screamed at the person who sits at a green light too long, or almost side-swipes us while texting and driving?

Did you know there has been a term coined for fear of losing your cellphone? Oh, and other one… Phantom Phone Syndrome.. With all this technology comes more problems. Computers are great, but look at hacking. Yeah, you can do the same thing by stealing the right piece of mail, but with the internet nowadays, who is gonna go through the hard work of digging through the trash? Advances are made each and everyday… but with each one of those advances comes multiple downsides to each one.

Is the machine going to suck it out for you? X-Rays expose us to radiation. All they had during the power outage was each other. Even people with generators came out of their houses in boredom. Since then? Personal technology is fine for me to cover during this rant…. I even enjoy a small amount of crap they put on TV. I would have fared just fine in earlier times. Now… its off to bed, turn on my electronic alarm clock and watch my fancy movie disc, in my fancy DVD player. I think some Harry Potter or Sweeney Todd is in order for sleep tonight.

Its the perfect time to pull out the cute hoodies, throw backyard bonfires and have a few beers with good people, and cuddle with a cute guy or girl while you feel the lick of hot flames against legs. Its time to deal with the repetitive task of raking your leaves and prepare for the impending doom of Winter. The color change is gorgeous, the temperature drops are unpredictable and soon to follow is the snow.

I am not a fan of seeing my own breath in the air and definitely not looking forward to the annoying, wet, white stuff that falls from the skies. I hate being cold.

Absolutely hate it… this coming from the girl who sleeps with a comforter and a heating pad during the summer with the ceiling fan on medium speed. It also gives me the kick in the ass I need to fix the blower motor resistor in my car so I can have all my heat options back.

I spent much of the year stressing and looking for work, dealing with anxiety depression about not working and worrying about paying people back. The season is changing again and the year is almost over. I have a job… the legal issues at the firehouse are clearing up … the boy is back from Texas… I can finally start pulling myself back onto my feet. Even if I am freezing my ass off while getting there….

I spent Monday through Friday in the dark. Power finally came on sometime late Friday night… Once Friday finally came around, I had a thirty hour shift at my rescue squad.

It must have been early effects from the full moon, but I ran my ass off the whole time… From 5pm-8am the tones just kept ringing. Car accidents, overdoses, angry drunks, fat people with diarrhea…it just never stopped. It was quiet till ten am, when the tones picked right back up, and continued till 5pm. Saturday night was good.
