We offer seasonal sports training and competitions for people of all ages and skill levels. Special Olympics empowers athletes to spread acceptance and inclusion and live more independent lives through leadership training. This training prepares them to be leaders on their sports team and in the game of life.

Keeping the athletes healthy so they can compete is a key goal of the movement. Children and adults with intellectual disabilities who participate in Special Olympics develop improved physical fitness and motor.

Special Olympics Southern California provides seasonal sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

We are committed to responsible stewardship of your support and are proud of our high standards. Before I was a Special Olympics athlete, I wasn't involved with sports. Special Olympics was founded in by Eunice Kennedy Shriver, based on her belief that individuals with intellectual disabilities could excel through involvement in sports.

Shriver's powerful message encouraged Olympic gold medalist Rafer Johnson to establish a California chapter in The local San Diego Regional Office serves nearly 3, athletes and provides 11 Olympic-style sports for participants to compete in.
